Starting on Wedensday, January 11 and running through Friday, January 13, we are offering a great deal through Living Social.com. You can purchase a voucher worth $25 in books from Walk a
Crooked Mile Books for only $10. You can then redeem the coupon up through July 14, 2012 at the store.
If you are considering this deal, let me introduce ourselves. We are Cynthia Potter and Greg Williams, the owners of the bookstore. We have had the shop for 15 years at this wonderful location in Mt. Airy. We are in the wonderful Frank Furness designed train station , called the Mt Airy Train Station on what used to be called the R7 Septa Line but now designated as the Chestnut Hill East Line. You can visit us from Center City Philadelphia on the train and just cross over the bridge and walk on down to the far end of the station. Our address is
7423 Devon St., Phil, PA 19119 and we are at East Gowen Avenue between Germantown Avenue and Stenton Avenue. Our phone number is 215-242-0854. Our normal hours are Mon, Tues, Thur, Fri, from 7 a.m. - 6:30 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m. till 6:30 p.m. We are generally closed on Wednesdays and Sundays though this week we will be open on Wednesday, January 11.
. Though we are full to the brim, we try to remain quite organized so browsers can find books. In many sections, our books are arranged alphabetically by author's name. We have 7 rooms between the first and second floor and books are also arranged by topics which include just about anything you can imagine from sociology to atlases to magic to literature to nature cinema, etc., etc. Our books range in price from $1 paperback children's picture books and chapter books to rare and collectible books. We estimate that about 70,000 of our books are below $10 with our
paperback fiction, science fiction, and detective mostly priced at $2. We have about 10,000 more collectible books, most of which are listed on Abebooks.com and Alibris.com. and which you can view on line by going to either site.
We pride ourselves on service and are always glad to take phone calls asking if we have a particular book or to help you find books when you are in the shop. Please do ask for help. Also, we would be delighted to make you a complimentary cup of coffee or tea. But we also highly recommend that you take the time to just browse. Used bookstores, like ours, are filled with surprise treasures. There are lots of books here that you don't even know exist and you can only find them by slowing down and just looking around.
We hope you'll explore the rest of our website and read some of our blogs, many of which highlight our free community concerts which
take place outdoors under the porte cochere facing a natural amphitheater where people sit on the grass and enjoy music while dogs and kids run around and have fun. We also have yard sales and lots of other events. Check out our past calendar to see what sorts of things go on here. Please check out the blogs that describe some of our more interesting books. We can't guarantee that all the books described are still available but many of them still are.
We got a new addition to the shop about 5 years ago when a scrawny little street cat showed up and took over. She has control of all the dogs in the neighborhood and is no longer scrawny. C.C. (short for Crooked Cat) may well pop out of a shelf while you're browsing or rub up against you for a petting or she might ignore you completely. She is, after all, a cat.
We 'd love to have you join our email or facebook list. If you're interested you can sign on here on our home page and keep abreast of what's going on here. Better yet we hope to meet you in person and introduce you to our shop.
